United Way of Central Maryland and The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) are expecting! Help us prepare for the families and children who will be joining our newest Family Center in the Poppleton neighborhood of West Baltimore.

Focused on multi-generational support, the United Way Neighborhood Zone in Poppleton will offer an on-site Family Center, providing quality early childhood education, full-day care for children, and professional support and resources for expectant and parenting student parents.

Opportunities to support the Family Center in Poppleton:

Purchase an item from the baby registry

Items include toys, bottles, games, learning resources, and more.

Donate to help us

Provide cribs, highchairs, toys, clothes, and books for the incoming students.

Participate in the baby clothing drive

Infants and toddlers can be messy! We are looking for individuals to purchase from or run drives for NEW children’s clothing. We need clothing items ranging from newborn to 3T size.

Record a story for children

Grab your favorite board book and record yourself reading a story suitable for children up to the age of four. We will share these with the children during story time! Please consider also donating the book you read.

Write letters of encouragement or advice for the young parents

Parenting can be hard! Imagine parenting a young child while also attending school full-time. Write letters to the young parents that are receiving resources through the Family Center to show them your support.

Make sensory bags for kids

Help young minds learn by exploring and using multiple senses. Create these sensory bags so infants and toddlers can improve their cognitive skills.

Create toddler fun-on-the-go bags

Fill plastic size gallon bags with some toddler favorites! Each bag can include bubbles, jumbo crayons, matchbox cars, kid size sunglasses, play dough, and a small notepad.

And don’t forget! Join us on May 12 for a virtual baby shower in honor of the Poppleton Family Center. Learn about the new family center and help us prepare the space for our incoming bundles of joy.
