Weekend Backpacks

Weekend Backpacks aims to improve the lives of students affected by food insecurity in Baltimore.  The program delivers bags of nutritious, child-friendly food to schools weekly, addressing the gap in food access for children who receive free or reduced-price meals during the school week but lack sufficient food over the weekend.

Key Details

  • Food Distribution: Each backpack contains enough food to feed 3-4 people for the weekend, providing at least six meals.
  • Community Involvement: The program relies heavily on volunteers, with nearly 200 volunteers each month helping to pack and deliver backpacks.
  • Impact: in the 2023-2024 school year, the program delivered over 3,000 backpacks to students across more than 50 schools in Baltimore

As you are all aware, the McCormick Retiree Association, based on the recommendations of its members, makes charitable donations to various 501c(3) organizations.
